Description

Anteriorly oriented within a child’s torso, the distal esophagus descends through the diaphragmatic hiatus to meet the stomach at the cardia, with the fundus positioned superior and slightly left of midline beneath the left hemidiaphragm. The gastric body curves inferiorly and to the right, forming the characteristic J-shaped venter, before narrowing at the antrum and pylorus to continue as proximal duodenum. Greater curvature lies inferolateral, while the lesser curvature tracks superomedially toward the lesser omentum attachment. A short segment of proximal small intestine is included inferior to the stomach. Pediatric stomach anatomy matters because position and angulation change with growth, feeding state, and diaphragmatic contour, and those relationships inform how you interpret symptoms and imaging in children. The gastroesophageal junction and angle of His are common teaching landmarks when discussing pediatric gastroesophageal reflux and sliding hiatal hernia, and the pyloric region is the reference point for hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, where gastric outlet obstruction produces nonbilious projectile vomiting and a distended stomach. Surface anatomy helps too. A distended fundus can elevate the left hemidiaphragm and complicate chest and abdominal radiograph reads. Use this 3D rendered female child model for pediatric anatomy lectures on the foregut, for patient education handouts explaining reflux or pyloric stenosis, and for publishing contexts that need a clear anterior torso view with internal organs visible against a clean white background.
