Description

Centered on an adult male skull in anterior view, the animation tracks the facial skeleton from the frontal bone and supraorbital margins inferiorly to the nasal bones, piriform (anterior nasal) aperture, maxillae, and the zygomatic bones forming the lateral orbital rims and anterior zygomatic arches. As the sequence progresses, bony buttresses are visually emphasized along the nasofrontal region, infraorbital margins, zygomaticomaxillary junction, and the midline maxillary crest, clarifying how forces transmit from the forehead to the midface. Medial landmarks (glabella, nasal bridge, anterior nasal spine) remain fixed while lateral elements (zygomatic arches and malar eminences) are highlighted to convey transverse facial width and structural support. Facial trauma assessment depends on understanding these anterior load paths and junctions. The animation makes it easier to teach why zygomaticomaxillary complex fractures disrupt the lateral orbital rim and malar projection, why nasal bone fractures often involve the piriform aperture margins, and how Le Fort fracture patterns relate to maxillary buttresses seen from the front. Orbital rim continuity and the infraorbital foramen region can be appreciated in motion as attention shifts across the midface, which helps when correlating exam findings such as step-offs, periorbital ecchymosis, and infraorbital nerve hypoesthesia. Use this sequence in gross anatomy and head and neck modules when introducing the viscerocranium, in emergency medicine and maxillofacial surgery teaching on facial fracture patterns, or in medical publishing layouts that need a clean anterior reference for labeling and orientation. A strong primer for radiology correlation to Waters and Caldwell projections. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
